Anyway-these fish like to create babies...lots and lots of babies. They have had babies at least 3 times since we got them in the fall. The thing about these convicts is that they are very protective of their babies and will kill anything that threatens them-explains the brutal murder of the other fish we had. They are so protective that they kill the previous batch of babies when they have new ones. So out of the thousands of fish they have produced, none of them have survived.
So Jeff tried to remedy the situation by sequestering the previous batch of babies in a breeder net-a devise that separates the babies from the rest of the tank (ie their murderous parents). Unfortunately Jeff placed this breeder net a little too close to the light at the top of the tank and the baby fish got fried. Did you know that batches of baby fish are called fries? Anyway, Jeff is very sorry for frying the fry and we hope the little ones rest in peace.
Every day I hate these fish more and more. It is a good thing Jeff is around to feed them/take care of their tank. It just seems like every time I start to get excited about the babies getting bigger, the mom has more babies and kills the old ones.
It is gross and anticlimactic. Check em out.
