River Running - 13 Miles

We talked all last week about taking our canoe out on the river and determined that Saturday was the day to do it. Jeff excitedly woke me up at 8:30 informing me that I needed to get out of bed as soon as possible so we could pack up and get on the river. In our new Richmond magazine, there was a page of outdoor activities to take advantage of in and around Richmond, one of which was a 13 mile canoe trip from Maidens Landing to Watkins Landing. When Jeff woke me up, he had already been downstairs to look up the route, how to get there, and how long it would take.

His enthusiasm motivated me to hop right out of bed, put on my bikini and prepare all of the necessary equipment for a day on the river. After packing a lunch, some beers, lots of water, the life jackets, paddles, fishing poles, fishing tackle and canoe, we each hopped in our cars and were on the way. First, we had to drop my car off at the take out and then we drove Jeff's truck to Maidens Landing to put in.

For the next 6 hours, we floated, paddled, fished, listened to music and drank a couple of beers. We basically had the river to ourselves all day only seeing one or two other boaters along the way. Between the two of us, we probably caught 10 or 11 small mouth bass that were unfortunately too small to eat.

We had so much fun and I am looking forward to making the trip again sometime soon.
