Danielle called me last weekend and asked if we would be interested in a ski weekend in Snowshoe, WV. Duh! So we quickly got on the computer to find a condo to rent and made a quick call to Cortney to see if she would like to join us (Clayton was in Colorado for a ski/work trip). We found an affordable condo at Silvercreek, Cortney was on board, Danielle found a sweet deal on lift tickets at Costco and we were set to go.
Jeff, Cortney and I left on Friday around 5:45pm and were pulling into Silvercreek around 9:45pm. NOT a bad trip at all! Danielle and Steve left about an hour after us and arrived at around 11pm. We had a few cocktails and chatted for a couple of hours and then hit the hay in preparation for an early morning on Saturday.
Everyone knows I am turning into my mother who we affectionately refer to as the B-Dawg. In true B-Dawg style I was the first to wake at 7:30am and proceeded to bang the cabinet doors in the kitchenette, make a full pot of coffee and check the Snowshoe daily ski report all before everyone else opened their eyes. Mom-I know you are proud.
In keeping with the B-Dawg spirit, I cheerfully awakened everyone else, found out what time the rental place opened downstairs for Cortney and Danielle and made a plan for the day. The ski report informed us that 59/60 trails were open, there would be no snow blowing except on Shay's Revenge and the conditions were pretty much perfect.
We were on the slopes shortly after the lifts opened and skiied as much as we could with the necessary breaks to warm our hands and toes and refuel. We skiied pretty much all of Snowshoe on Saturday including the Western Territory and the new slopes over by Widowmaker. It was a great day and by 4pm we were back on the bus over to Silvercreek for time in the hot tub and a little bit of happy hour.
When Danielle came skiing with me once during our Sophomore year of college, we met up with my parents and sister and Jason at Silvercreek/Snowshoe. For dinner one night that weekend we had cheese fondue...a VERY POTENT cheese fondue thanks to my father continuously pouring alcohol into the cheese. The night ended with a very intoxicated group of people and Jason carrying my sister to bed...all from the cheese fondue. Danielle has fond memories of this evening so she asked if we could again have cheese fondue.
So for dinner, we started with a large pot of delicious cheese fondue that was not quite as potent as what we remembered followed by a very potent chocolate fondue dessert thanks to Danielle's heavy handed pouring of Bailey's right into the pot.
Needless to say our evening ended with lots of laughs!
We were slower to start on Sunday morning for obvious reasons but were still out on the slopes by 10am. We skiied Silvercreek and as many runs as possible before we had to head back up to the room to pack up and hit the road. It snowed all day on Sunday and made for a winter wonderland! For the entire weekend, temps were FREEZING. I think the photos make that obvious.
Danielle-thanks for asking us to come! We had SUCH a good time with everyone and can't wait to do it again sometime in March.
