This weekend we went up to Seven Springs ski area in Pennsylvania for a warm-up weekend to next week's trip to Chamonix. We met up with my parents, Ken, Marty and Laura, and my parents' new friends Mark and Janet. On Friday night we arrived at the hotel and were met by the rest of the group with prosecco and beer. On Saturday morning we were up and down at breakfast early so we could make it to the slopes when the lifts opened. The skiing in the morning was great and when the afternoon brought more people and icy conditions, we went inside for a few apres ski beers. Dad and I accompanied Jeff to the ski shop afterwards with the goal of purchasing new ski boots and were successful! Jeff left with a great new pair of Nordica ski boots. Thanks to Marshall and Kathy for the Seven Springs gift card we got for Christmas!!! We definitely put it to good use!
On Saturday night, we went to Polymath Park to a restaurant called Tree Tops. Located in a contemporary-style former ski home, the restaurant boasts a sprawling deck off its second-story dining room that is indeed nestled among the treetops. Inside, the stark walls of the main dining room feature an array of photos and drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces. The rectangular mahogany trim likewise calls to mind Wright's attention to detail. The tables, which feature distinctive high-backed, custom-made chairs, are close together. Yet, there is an air of intimacy and warmth reinforced by the free-standing rough stone fireplace in the center of the room.

Our dinner was leisurly and delicious!!! After dinner we headed back to the hotel and all zonked out from a day of skiing and a heavy dinner. This morning we were back out on the slopes early and enjoyed a day of skiing with snow falling all around us. It was much colder too! Jeff's new boots treated him very well and we skiied until my toes went numb and until the icy conditions of yesterday afternoon returned. After an apres ski beer we were back on the road to Virginia.

Oh yeah-I loved the helmet if for no other reason than the fact that my noggin was warm and cozy despite frigid temps and high winds! And I got hit in the head by the lift bar once so good thing I was protected!
