Boating at Smithfield

This weekend we took our boat to Smithfield Station.  With nightfall coming earlier and earlier, it has now become impossible to get to an overnight boating destination on Friday night.  Lucky for us that means we got to spend an evening with Paul, Courtney and James (Jenna was already asleep).  James fell asleep on the couch trying to wait up for us to arrive so he could show us his temporary tattoo-a car from Cars.  Paul carried him to bed only for him to wake up later and join us downstairs.  

On Saturday morning, Courtney left for Richmond to spend some time with her mom so we accompanied James, Paul and Jenna to James's soccer game.  Well they thought he had a soccer game.  Apparently it had been cancelled the night before.  It was still fun to see James's soccer skills as he kicked the ball around the field.

After the "game" we stopped for some food for the weekend and got the boat ready for its voyage.  We had a quick lunch and then hit the water over to Smithfield Station.  Ginger came with us on this trip and is only happy when we are moving if I am sitting with her.  But I loved the snuggle time.  

When we arrived at our destination, we got settled in and then went to the bar at the hotel to watch the Tech game with some other fellow Hokies.  When the game wasn't looking so good for us, we figured time on the boat while watching the sunset was much more appealing so that's what we did.  Jeff happened to call Scott before the end of the game and he gave us the play by play for the last drive.  We still can't believe we won that game.  

Next was dinner back at the Smithfield Station restaurant before relaxing back on the boat before bedtime.  I love boat camping.

At around 6am, the weather turned and rain starting falling through our skylight window.  We quickly closed it and went back to sleep hoping it would pass.  And it didn't.  We made some delicious breakfast of egg sandwiches and coffee on the boat before getting ready to make the really rough, rainy and cold trip back to Paul and Courtney's.  4+ foot seas and lots of wind and rain made for a scary trip back for Ginger and me and a fun and exhilarating ride back for Jeff.  I'm just glad we made it safely.

I can't wait for our next overnight trip.
