Sadly, after the office visit, we had to say bye to Ashley and Jason so they could head off to the airport and catch their flight home. Afterwards, we stopped back by the market for some delicious doughnuts and then it was back to the house to meet up with sweet Julia. She had a soccer game in Tacoma that morning.
We ate a quick lunch and then we were off again to see more of Seattle. It was quite cold that day and Laura insisted on wearing her new robe to keep her extra warm. From the house we went to the beach for a stroll along the sand and to admire the amazing view. Seattle is such a beautiful city.
We were then off to the locks. The locks were built in 1911 and are nicknamed the Ballard Locks. The locks provide a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which connects eastward to Lake Union and Lake Washington. The fish ladder is also at the locks and allow salmon to pass between fresh and salt water, and to navigate the locks.
After the locks, we walked around the neighborhood where Will, Cath and the girls live: Ballard. It is such a great area and one in which we would love to live. There are lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops. After our tour of Ballard, it was back to the house for dinner and a game. Then Will, Jeff and I went back to Ballard to see a rockabilly band at Tractor. The lead singer is a friend of Will's. Unfortunately they were sold out, so we took a title tour of Ballard bars and ended our night at the show once a lot of people had already left. We didn't make it home until close to 2am. Definitely a fun night out with a really fun Uncle.
In the morning, we were up for a delicious breakfast and then we got our stuff together and headed off towards the airport. We checked in, got some lunch and settled in to wait for our flight when we heard an announcement over the loudspeaker that the flight was oversold and $400 travel vouchers were being offered to anyone willing to take a later flight. After a little bit of deliberation and some calls into work, we agreed to be bumped. I texted Will, he told us how to take the train downtown and we left the airport to meet up with Will and Cath and see some more of Seattle. We headed off to Capitol Hill (their old neighborhood), went up in the water tower for some more amazing city views, went to the green house, had a drink at Smith and then we went back to the house for another delicious dinner and an episode or two of Spongebob before we went back to the airport.
This time our flight left on time and we made it back to Richmond at 9am on Monday morning, drove home, took showers and were at work by 10am. Amazing trip!
