New Years Eve Travel and Celebration Abroad

The alarm woke us up promptly at 3am. YIKES! We got up, showered and got our stuff together...AND SO DID OUR HOSTS! Krysta and Ryan beat us down to the kitchen at 4am with a full breakfast spread of bagels, cream cheese, donuts, crumb cake, coffee, 4 types of coffee mate, and coffee to go cups. Can you say above and beyond?! We are SO lucky to have SUCH good friends. Thank you Krysta and Ryan for being amazing hosts. We love you!
We were on the road to Dulles shortly after 4am and arrived at our gate in plenty of time to catch our 6:35am flight to JFK. We were on a teeny propeller plane that wasn't even 1/3 full.
An early landing put us at JFK ahead of schedule and we made our way to the gate for a bit of a wait before our transatlantic departure.
Our flight to London was full except for first class so we were kicking ourselves for not asking for an upgrade. There must have been 10 kids on board under the age of 5 and all seated around us. Their behavior was suprisingly good which was a relief.
We pulled out late due to the necessity to de-ice our aircraft but we seemed to make up time in the air ensuring an on-time arrival.
Shortly into our flight the captain came over the loud speaker to announce that a couple in first class had just gotten engaged. They received a round of applause from all on the plane and the captain mentioned that this was the first proposal he has had on one of his flights in his entire 25-year career.
We both got a little shut eye in preparation for the New Years Eve celebrating we would be doing upon our arrival in London!
After waking up, we decided it was time to get the party started and ordered ourselves a beer and a mini bottle of wine. Cheers!
We arrived on time, made it through customs with ease due to the strange arrival time, freshened up quickly and made our way through the airport to the Underground to catch the Tube. We missed the first train by one second forcing us to wait 15 minutes for the next one. Our tube ride was eventful with more and more people packing in at every stop. The gentleman sitting next to me informed me that everyone was making their way to Central London to watch the fireworks shown on TV each year. After a quick train transfer, we only had a few stops left until we were at the party to see my sis, Jason and all of their friends.
When we arrived Ashley met us at the door to many screams and hugs and we made our entrance wearing our 2009 glasses courtesy of my mom & dad. We had a lot of fun at Mean and Steve's flat with lots of laughs, stories, photos and games. Because of the lack of a TV, Steve and Megan set the cuckoo clock to go off with one minute to go so we could count down. When the clock cuckooed, chaos ensued with screams, a broken wine glass and scrambling to find significant others for a New Years Eve smooch. We left Megan and Steve's around 2am and walked around the corner to Ashley and Jason's flat. We called mom & dad and wished them a Happy New Year and then crashed around 3am.
