On Saturday morning Jeff drove to Harrisonburg to go hunting with his good friend Chris from college. Jeff has never been hunting before and has been talking about this trip for weeks. The plan was to practice a few shots and then trek into the cornfield behind Chris' house to wait for the deer to come along. Jeff said they positioned themselves in some brush in the cornfield. They were lying on their stomachs with their guns ready when, just before dark, four deer entered the field. Because of the direction from which they were coming, Chris and Jeff had to reposition themselves just a bit in order to fire a successful shot. As soon as they had the deer in view, Jeff fired off a shot and hit one. Success! Afterwards Chris cleaned the deer for Jeff and prepared it to be cut into pieces.
Chris had been hired to play the guitar and sing at a bar in Harrisonburg that evening so Jeff stayed to celebrate the kill.
WARNING! The following photos are NOT easy on the eyes. I feel very sorry for the poor little deer but know that our families will enjoy eating venison this Christmas.
Now we have a cooler full of meat ready to put in the freezer. Some will come with us to Suffolk and some to Philadelphia. Jeff was certainly a Happy Hunter!
