Hurricane Irene

While on the topic of natural disasters, not long after the earthquake, Hurricane Irene hit Richmond.  In her path she left hundreds of downed trees, destroyed homes, powerless houses, and more destruction.  She left us without power for 9 full days.  Fortunately, Marshall and Kathy lent us their generator so we drove to Suffolk to get it all in the name of saving the delicious venison in our two freezers.  It also kept one light on and the TV once or twice.  

During the storm, we kept leaving the house because a huge pine in our front yard was swaying to and fro and we were afraid it would fall right into our living room and crush us.  Then we slept in the guest room just in case that tree decided to fall in the middle of the night.  

Then for 9 days we ate on our porch with the camping stove or out at a restaurant and we were so super thankful when, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the power came back on.  

We have had enough natural disasters to last us another several years now, I think.
